Have you ever wondered what it’s actually like to meet a snake up close, or whether a gecko is really as scary as it looks? Our resident reptiles and rodents are here to help you find out — in the friendliest way possible.
We keep a carefully selected group of animals in-store not just as display animals, but as ambassadors. They’re here to be met, learned about, and — when the time is right — gently handled. Whether you’re a curious first-timer, a nervous parent, or someone who’s always wanted to know more but wasn’t sure where to start, our residents are the perfect introduction.
What Are Resident Animals?
Our resident animals are permanent members of the team. Unlike the animals we sell, they aren’t going anywhere — they live here full time, and they’re used to people. They’re calm, well-socialised, and handled regularly by our staff, which makes them ideal for meeting visitors of all ages and confidence levels.
Think of them as your first step into the world of reptiles and small animals. No pressure, no rush — just a chance to get up close, ask questions, and maybe discover that the animal you thought was scary is actually pretty incredible.
Why Reptiles & Rodents?
Reptiles and rodents are two of the most misunderstood groups of animals kept as pets. Reptiles are often seen as slimy, dangerous, or unpredictable — when in reality, most commonly kept species are clean, dry to the touch, and genuinely docile when well cared for. Rodents like rats and mice carry a lot of unfair baggage too, when actually they’re intelligent, social, and make wonderful pets.
Our residents help bust those myths firsthand. There’s no better way to overcome a preconception than meeting the animal itself.
What Can I Expect?
When you visit, you’re welcome to come and meet our residents at any time during opening hours. Our staff are always on hand to introduce you, share information about each animal, and guide you through a handling experience if you’d like one.
We take the welfare of our animals seriously — every interaction is calm, gentle, and led by what the animal is comfortable with on the day. That means your experience will always be a positive one, for you and for them.
Whether you leave feeling ready to take one home, or simply walk away having learned something new, we count that as a success.
Curious about a specific species? Ask a member of staff — we love talking about our animals.
